Class 3

The first step in English — letters, sounds and simple words, building a love for the language.

Starting to read with letters, sounds (phonics) and simple words

About this course

Class 3 is the most important time to begin English. At this age children learn easily through play, pictures and songs. In our class English is introduced as a language of joy, not fear.

Many of our students find English hard to understand or speak, because they rarely have regular English conversation outside the classroom. In this course we remove that fear and slowly build an easy friendship with the language.

What we teach in this class

  • Recognising English letters and sounds (phonics)
  • Reading short words and spelling them correctly
  • Saying everyday short sentences and greetings
  • Building vocabulary through rhymes, songs and pictures

How we teach this class

  • 01 Letters and sounds through play and songs Each class uses rhymes and songs to teach letter sounds. Children practise pronunciation by singing along.
  • 02 Learning words through pictures Each new word is linked to a picture or a real object, so it stays in memory.
  • 03 Ten minutes of reading every day Homework includes ten minutes of reading a small book each day. Parents can sit alongside and listen.
  • 04 Comparing Bangla and English We compare Bangla and English words to show similarities and differences, building understanding.
  • 05 Introducing yourself in English Each week, short introductions and stories help children gain the courage to speak.

What students will achieve

  • Recognise English words and sounds with confidence
  • Read and understand simple sentences
  • Greet and say short things in English
